I ask...

This morning, after our breakfast at MacDonald s, on our way to the car park, we saw a motorcyclist parking his motorcycle at a pavement outside a shop.
Joshuaboy immediately commented,"Yee...why he park here?"
He continued,"silly uncle..."

On our way back from school, I asked him about the motorcyclist's episode again. I asked him why he couldn't park his motorcycle along the pavement.
Joshuaboy replied,"park at the carpark..."

Sounds logical...

I make...roti pizza

Joshuaboy had fun making roti pizza at his birthday party. One afternoon, he said that he wanted to make pizza. I then dished out whatever I could find in the fridge, and he enjoyed the fun once again...

Joshua is 4!

Birthday party I
1st Sep, 2.30pm.
Invited Joshuaboy's cousin, Gab gor gor and his classmates - Zec, Chris, Matt & Kaela to our place for a simple celebration. The kids had DIY roti-pizza for tea, whereas mummies had mee siam. The birthday cake was Thomas & Friends character cake upon request of the birthday boy.

Birthday party II
5th Sep, noon.
We had nasi lemak buffet lunch at our place. Joshuaboy's gong gong & ma ma (paternal & maternal), pappy & mahmmyboy's siblings, Joshuaboy's godparents & Nat turned up on that day. The birthday cake was Toy Story character cake, which was chosen by Joshuaboy.

...Joshua is 4...

19Aug-BKK

father & son posing in front of the tuk tuk

~ Home Sweet Home ~

What was joshuaboy playing with in the plane?

18Aug-BKK

This tuk tuk service is free for its serviced residence guests.

Joshuaboy & I seized this opportunity to take the tuk tuk to the nearby Emporium Store. An enjoyable trip we had:)

17Aug-BKK

Pappy was out after breakfast, so joshuaboy & mahmmyboy lazed in the room, enjoying our so-called vacation...

The best part of the room is the kitchen. We can whip up simple meals, make ourselves a cuppa, clear our laundry (yes, there is a washing machine/dryer)...

There is a supermarket, which operates till 11.40pm daily, and a 24-hr Burger King across the road, though we had to brave the traffic to jaywalk. Joshuaboy & I did that once without pappy as I needed to do some marketing for our dinner. Luckily, joshuaboy was very cooperative. I guess he had no choice...hahaha... When we managed to conquer the traffic, we both heaved signs of relief...

16Aug-BKK

What were the three of us doing last Monday (16Aug)? Or rather, where were the three of us?

It was a last minute proposal by Pappy (on 15 Aug Sun) to go along with him to Bangkok on 16 Aug, Mon. I applied leave of absence for Joshuaboy the following day. Teacher Regina said she was jealous of us..hee..

Wo shi xiao hai zi

We were on the bus on our way home. Joshuaboy asked me to stretch my hand to hold the handle bar on top of the seat.
He said," wo shi xiao hai zi, wo na bu dao.
ni shi da ren, ni na dao."
But I told him my hands were too short for that. I was just lazy to stand up.

I ask... about the taxi.

"Why got so many Comfort cabs?" Joshuaboy asked.

We were waiting at the bus stop this afternoon, and indeed we saw only Comfort cabs on the road. In fact, I only noticed that after Joshuaboy's remarks. I guess, probably he didn't see cabs of other taxi operators.

What an observant child!

I ask... about mummy's hand

"Hey, why got this?" joshuaboy asked me on our way home this afternoon.

He was referring to the mole on my hand.

I shoot......bubble...

Monday afternoon (2 Aug) after school.
simple activity...
simple pleasure...
simple enjoyment...

TFIG...again...

Breakfast at McDonald's...again...yes....
There was heavy downpour this morning. Joshuaboy & mahmmyboy woke up at 945am (want to blame the rain, or thank the weather???)Realised that it was too late to prepare breakfast, and had to get joshuaboy ready for school, thus told joshuaboy my plan to have breakfast at McDonald's. He said, "YES!" A loud and clear response...I like his reply.

We walk...

Last Saturday, 24 July.
Time - after breakfast ( couldn't remember the exact timing)
Place - Pulau Ubin ( breakfast was at Changi Village hawker centre)
Cost of ferry ( one way) - $2.50 per person, children pay the same amount.

We did not rent any bicycle.
We simply walked, explored a part of the island on foot...

I make...sushi...

Our lunch last Sunday.

Joshuaboy had sushi, while pappy & mahmmyboy had mee siam...yummy...(thanks to Prima Taste for its easy-to-follow recipe)

Pappy thought that sushi making was going to be elaborate. Then he realised it could be done...so simple...at home...by a child...

(The recording was interrupted & denied by joshuaboy...too bad...)

I did... Thomas & Friends puzzle...

This was one of the activities Joshuaboy did after he came back from school.

I ask...about the bin...

Joshuaboy asked me, " Why got bin?"
That was, last night, after our McDonald's supper, at the car park next to Hg Mall. (yes...supper at about 10pm...hee...)
I questioned him," wei shen mo you bin ne? Ru guo mei you bin, la ji diu na li?"
Joshuaboy replied," la ji diu toilet..." and he laughed.

I ask...about the car...

joshuaboy,"mummy, why your car tun tun tun...why?"
(joshuaboy questioned that when I started the engine)

I write...wo xie zi...

Bought a jotter book this morning from Popular. Showed it to joshuaboy when he came back from school. He was excited & eager to scribble in the book.
We then revisited two Chinese characters which joshuaboy had learnt two days ago. After a while, he told me," wo xie hao le,"
Alamak...only willing to write one or two characters. But he filled up the whole of another page with a different Chinese stroke. He told me he learnt that from bai lao shi in class today. He told me had to finish the whole page.
Hmm...not a bad attempt.
Hmm...my joshuaboy paid attention in class.
Hmm...

I write...wo xue bi hua...

Joshuaboy is learning different strokes of Chinese characters (bi hua) this semester. So far, he has learnt 'shu', 'heng', 'pie' & 'na'. I therefore seize the opportunity to introduce character writing to joshuaboy based on those strokes.

I did...

Pappy bought this 60-piece Toy Story jigsaw puzzle for joshuaboy two days ago. Toy Story is joshuaboy's latest craze.

Joshuaboy could piece about 60% of on his own, according to pappy.

I believe him.

TGIF

It's Friday....weekend has started for mahmmyboy....pappy always says this with a stint of jealousy...hee...
This morning decided not to prepare breakfast for joshuaboy...but don't be mistaken...not that joshuaboy would go hungry...I brought him to Mcdonald's...not a bad idea right!
He finished the hash, drank a packet of milk, and he asked for more pancake. I cut a small slice, he gobbled that. I cut another piece, he ate it. After clearing the table ready to leave, he said we had not finished the pancake, and wanted to eat. Seeing him enjoying his food, I'm very happy..

We were at Long John Silver yesterday afternoon for some fries & cold milo (upon joshuaboy's request). Then joshuaboy asked for more tomato sauce. I told him to get one more packet from the aunty at the counter.

Joshuaboy: mummy, lai, lai...

mahmmyboy followed him, stopped, stood behind him.

Joshuaboy: aunty, I want tomato sauce.

The counter staff gave him 3 packets. Joshuaboy took only one.

Joshuaboy: thank you aunty...xie xie... (fyi - the aunty is a young malay lady)

He turned around & gave me a broad smile...
I smiled back at him...
...felt proud of him.

Skype...

just skype with pappy who is at jakarta now... joshuaboy was rather excited to see pappy online...while i was talking to pappy, joshuaboy fell off his chair...hahaha....no big issue, no injury, just hurt his bum. He called out," mummy, help..." That taught him a lesson not to jump on his seat with his bum...

School experiences...daily...

joshuaboy," mummy, jin tian wo ku..."

mahmmyboy,"wei sheng mo ni ku?"

joshuaboy," wo la Jovan de shuo. Teacher Regina ma wo. Wo ku.."

That was one of our conversations in the car on our way back from the kindergarten. He will initiate the conversation by telling me happenings in class.

I write...

I can...write

letter "J".

This is the first letter that joshuaboy learnt to write when he was around 2 years old, because "J" for Joshua.

letter "C"

number "2" (according to joshuaboy)

dated 8 Feb 2010.

Father & Son

Bonding time...

dated 17 Feb 2010.

I can...

I can...make wan ton!

The steps are very simple & easy to follow. Prior to that, I marinated the minced meat with soy sauce, sesame oil, and pepper. Next, I added some finely chopped water chestnut to the meat. Then I put the mixture in the fridge.

These are the steps I showed to joshuaboy.

  1. Place a wan ton skin on the plate.
  2. Scoop some minced meat into one end of the skin.
  3. Spread some water on the other end of the skin ,which is not covered by the meat.
  4. Fold the skin, with the meat inside, into a semi-circle.
  5. Place the completed wan ton on another plate.

After that, he did one all by himself. I could see his proud grin on his face...All in all, he did about 5. All in all, we did 12 wan tons...

When we were done, I heated up some oil, getting ready to deep fry the wan tons. Joshuaboy could only stand on a stool, watch the oil bubble, watch the wan ton drop into the oil one by one, watch the fried wan ton scoop up onto a plate...
After which, we sat down to enjoy the 'fruit of our labour'.
Yummy!

(Did we finish all? What do you think?...hee...)

Down, down, down...

My dear Dee Khang was staying at home with mahmmy today.

He had high fever on Fri evening. I could feel his feverish body when i picked him up after class on fri afternoon. But I thought that could be due to the weather, the humidity, the heat. He was still as active, still as alert, still as playful when he came back home. I brought him out for dinner that evening at Compasspoint SC, and I began to suspect his condition when he refused his favourite miso soup. He had taken only a bit of rice, had a bite of the breaded prawn, and stopped eating then. When i brought him to the toilet, he could only pee a drop of urine. I brought him to the kid's toilet thinking that might 'motivate' him to clear his bladder. What happened thereafter was his pee hit his shorts & sandals. At that juncture, i scolded him. He looked upset...I felt equally sad for scolding him...Then, we went to Fox's to get him a new pair of shorts. While i was getting him to try the shorts, he urinated in the changing room. Shocking, shocking, shocking...I remember the earlier episode, so i did not say a word. I took his wet shorts, quickly wiped off the puddle, put on the new pants, opened the door, went straight to the cashier, left Fox's, hailed a cab, left for home. By then, i could feel his body getting more feverish.

His temperature hit 38.7. I called pappy, wanted to tell him that I would meet him at Mt A. He was on his way home, so i quickly packed his milk, took an extra set of clothes, off to the hospital. Joshuaboy looked tired and ill in the car. His temperature was 39. The doctor told us that could be due to viral infection.

His fever did not subside on Sat morning. We continued to monitor his condition. We were supposed to go for a play at the Esplanade, together with 2 of his classmates & mummies.

His condition improved on Sat afternoon, and on Sun morning he looked much better. Pappy decided to bring him out as he promised to buy more tracks for his trains. However, his temperature went up to 37.1. After buying the tracks, after attending mass, we headed home.

This morning, he looked so well & alive. Fever was gone, noise was back...hee...

puzzles, puzzles & puzzles...

Joshuaboy has been doing a lot of puzzles lately. He can complete a set of 48-piece puzzles on his own. More challenging ones on the way...pappy is going to order a 100-piece Thomas & Friends puzzle from amazon.com...

I remember i introduced puzzles to him after he turned 2. I remember i stopped doing puzzles with him after a while, the reason i can't recall. Then, last June, i re-introduced to joshuaboy after buying a set of 24-piece hungry caterpillar puzzle. I remember we went to mcdonald's after the purchase, and opened up the box shortly after settling down, and then we started joining pieces & pieces, eagerly to see the final outcome. Joshuaboy was very excited when we had finished. I remember we continued to undo everything, and redo the puzzle a few times... the 2hours spent at mcdonald's was worthwhile...I remember.

Hi! Happy New Year!

Dee Khang is joshuaboy's dialect name, hanyu pinyin is Zhi Kang. I like Zhi as it means wisdom, and Kang means healthy.

I delivered joshuaboy at week 32, pre-matured, weighing only 1.75kg. Hence the name Kang, as what mattered most to pappy & I at that time was to wish that joshuaboy grow up developmentally healthy & strong.

I asked joshuaboy," What's your name?"
He replied, "Dee Khang..."

I like this way of response. Hence, I decided to name this blog dee-khang...

This blog will write about joshuaboy's
A. learning process
1. in school with teachers;
2. at home with mahmmyboy

B. bonding time with pappy

C. special outing with mahmmyboy (every Fri is a special day...)

sophie's mummy gave me the inspiration to create this new blog & hopefully will be a more organised one...
